Obituary for Annie Hipes Powell Annie Hipes Powell
Was Honorary Life Member Of Mallow Presbyterian Church

Annie Hipes Powell, 89, of 1030 Hattie Street, Covington, Virginia, died March 3, 2009 at Golden Living Center in Clifton Forge.

She was born November 3, 1919 in Botetourt County, a daughter of the late Charles F. and Ida May Anderson Hipes.

Mrs. Powell retired from Hal-Mode Inc. in 1979.

She was a homemaker and loved working with her flowers gardening. She was a Honorary Life Member of Mallow Presbyterian Church, where she had served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and on the Women's CT Council.

She was a member of the Mallow Home Demonstration Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are her husband of 72 years, Robert E. Powell of Covington; one son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Rebecca Powell of Covington; two daughters and sonsÐin-law, Shirley and Fox Wright of Covington and Peggy and Thorton Shinault of Covington; grandchildren, Kathy W. and Johnny Murray; Ricky L. and Angie Shinault; Jennifer A. and Paul Lee; Stacy L. and Richard Henry and Travis E. Powell, all of Covington; great grandchildren, Sarah Wolfe and Johnny Quinlin of Roanoke; Cory L. Shinault, Nicholas Henry, and Cody Henry; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Thursday March 5, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. in the Mallow Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Gary Marshall officiating.

The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

The family will receive their friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the Arritt Funeral Home and at other times at the Powell home at 1030 Hattie Street, Covington, Virginia.
