Obituary for Louis R. Elliott Sr. Louis R. Elliott Sr.
Longstanding, Faithful Member Of The Elliott's Hill United Methodist Church

Louis R. Elliott Sr., of Lexington, Virginia, passed away at the Borden Health Center, Kendal in Lexington.

Lewis was a lifelong resident of Rockbridge County.

He was born May 8, 1917, the son of the late Thomas J. Elliott and Blanch Tolley Elliott.

Lewis was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Martha Kate Elliott.

Surviving are a son, L. Russell Elliott Jr. and wife, Carolyn of Lexington; two granddaughters: Pam Horan and husband, Scott of Fredericksburg, VA; and Kristi Mathia and husband, Ed of O'Fallon, MO; and his great grandchildren: Jessica Horan and Eli Mathia.

Lewis's love for his Lord and his family was evident in his daily life. He was a longstanding, faithful, devoted member of the Elliott's United Methodist Church and served in many capacities at his church, especially the choir.

The family would like to express thanks to all who visited, prayed and sent cards during Lewis's illness. Special thanks to the Borden Center staff and Hospice for their compassion and professionalism throughout his illness, not only helping him, but giving great comfort to those who loved him.

In lieu of flowers, Lewis wished memorials to be made to the Elliott's Hill United Methodist Church, 71 Elliott's Hill Lane, Lexington, VA or the Rockbridge Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450.

Interment will be private. A memorial services celebrating the life of Lewis will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Elliott's Hill United Methodist Church.

A reception will immediately follow the service.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
