Annie Alena Best Sheppard, 96, of Lexington, died peacefully at The Mayflower on Wednesday, June 10, 2009.

She was born April 9, 1913 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Henry and Inez McElroy Best.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Sheppard; a son, Charles Henry Sheppard; two brothers: John and Jack Best and a sister, Georgie Saunders Ferguson.

Surviving are a sister, Frances Anderson of Buena Vista; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great niecess and great great nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Bain officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rockbridge Area Hospice, P. O. Box 948, Lexington, Virginia 24450.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
