S.W. (Sonny) Gaines, 78, of Newport News, died there Thursday, June 18, 2009.
He was born February 17, 1931 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Lonnie and Grace King Gaines.
In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by two brothers, Autry Gaines and Jerry Gaines.
Surviving are two sons, Troy Gaines and Marlin Gaines, both of Newport; two sisters, Nonnie Tingler of Covington and Nelda Bowles and her husband, Carl of Morganton, NC; and one brother, Eddie G. Gaines of Covington.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and are being handled by Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia.
