Obituary for John Green DeHart, Jr. John Green DeHart, Jr.
Joint Service Will Be Held For Former Kerrs Creek Couple

John Green DeHart, Jr., of Lexington, formerly of Roanoke, went home to meet the Lord July 20, 2009.

He was born in Anawalt, West Virginia to the late John Green DeHart, Sr. and Roxie Irene Hale on July 11, 1927.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Teaford DeHart; a brother, Thomas Richard DeHart; a son-in-law, Robert F. Srb and a grandson, Jason Jonathan Brown.

Survivors include a brother, Albert Leon DeHart (wife, Sally) of Lynchburg, VA; daughters, Brenda DeHart Srb and Camellia Dehart Pierce (husband, Ronnie), a grandson, David M. Brown, II (wife, Misty) of Germantown, MD; and great granddaughers Mikaela, Gabrielle and Abigail; a great grandson, Gavin and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He began his railroad career in Narrows, Virginia in 1942 at the Virginia Railroad Powerhouse. After working for the N&W Railroad and Amtrak, he retired from the CSX Corporation in 1985 and retired to the Kerrs Creek area of Lexington, Virginia.

He spent his retirement years surrounded by the farm animals that he loved.

A joint service for John and his wife, Ruth Marie DeHart, who passed away June 9, 2009, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 29 at Kendal Hall with Rev. Sebby Volpe officiating.

Donations may be made to the Benjamin Borden Health Center Garden Fund.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
