Lexington Resident Dies At Age 94

Dorothy Isabelle Lackey Straub, 94, of Lexington, Virginia, died August 23, 2009 at Havenwood Nursing Home.

Born December 1, 1914, she was the daughter of the late William Percy Lackey and Isabelle Stuart Lackey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Herman Straub and her daughter, Connie Straub Zapar and daughter-in-law, Theresa Joyce Straub; four brothers: Percy Lackey, Frank Lackey, Robert Lackey and Fred Lackey; also three sisters: Rebecca Mangus, Julia Baxter and Anna Sterrett.

Surviving is one son, W. Lewis Straub and wife, Donna of Lexington; one sister, Agnes Patterson of Brownsburg; one son-in-law, ou Zapar and wife, L. J. of Chester, Va; sisters-in-law: Ruth Lackey, Frances Lackey, Louella Lackey and Jeanne Lackey; one brother-in-law, Mac Sterrett; also surviviing are grandchildren, Greg Zapar and wife, Stacy of California; Amy Wilkerson and husband, Chuck of Christiansburg; Ginny Cohen and husband, Scott of Virginia Beach; Nathan Straub, Kate Straub of Lexington and great grandchildren Eliza, Quinn and Maddie.

Mrs. Straub was a member of the Timber Ridge Old Stone Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on the behalf of Dorothy Straub to the Rockbrige Area Hospice, P. O. Box 948, Lexington, VA 24450 and or the Timber Ridge Old Stone Presbyterian Church, 73 Sam Houston Way, Lexington, VA. 24450.

Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at the Timber Ridge ARP Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. at the Timber Ridge Old Stone Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Carl Moore officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

The family welcome visitors at any time at the home of Lewis and Donna Straub.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
