Obituary for McKinley Warren Peters, Sr. McKinley Warren Peters, Sr.
Was Retired Nursing Assistant At C&O Hospital

McKinley Warren Peters, Sr., 90, of 734 Verge Street, Clifton Forge, died Monday, December 14, 2009 at his residence.

He was born on August 26, 1919, the son of the late Sidney Peters and Lelie Oatneal Peters.

He was a retired Nursing Assistant at the former C & O Hospital of Clifton Forge, Alleghany Regional Hospital of Low Moor.

He was also retired from the Bullpen Restaurant in Clifton Forge with 32 years of service.

He served in the US Navy during World War II and was a Trustee and Deacon of First Church of God in Christ.

He is survived by his wife Minnie Lou Peters; a daughter, Carolyn Crews of Lynchburg; a son, McKinley Peters, Jr. and wife, Lori of Clifton Forge; a sister, Theressa Key of Clifton Forge; 5 grandchildren, James Ross, Warren Ross, Byron Ross, Charles Ross and Robert Crews; 11 Great-grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jewel Hamm; two brothers, Lewis Peters and John Peters; three sisters, Mabel Watson, Lila Brown and Annie Powell.

A funeral service was conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Church of God in Christ, Clifton Forge with the Elder Leon Taylor, Rev. Matthew T. Barnett and Mr. David Halsey officiating.

Interment will follow in Red Hill Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by members of the Curtis A. Smith VFW Post 1033. Active pallbearers will be Byron Ross, Robert Brown, Jr., Mark Leisure, Greg Key, Harry Alston, and Russell Roland. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Hamm and C.H. Mack. The body was placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. Saturday and the family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence of 734 Verge Street, Clifton Forge.

Arrangements are being handled by Nicely Funeral Home.
