Garnette Virginia Mays Cody, 91, member of Parrish Court United Methodist Church, resident of The Woodlands Nursing Home, formerly of 309 Jackson Drive, Covigton, Virginia, went to be with her Lord peacefully on Monday, February 1, 2010.

She was born November 29, 1918 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Sidney and Annie Thompson Mays.

Garnette was a homemaker, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.

Mrs. Cody was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Robert L. Cody in 1998; two daughters, Shelby Cody in 1940 and Irma Smith in 1991; a grandson, Mark W. Lockhart in 1980; one great granddaughter, Christy Crawford in 2008; and also by 23 brothers and sisters.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Karen Cody of Covington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Geraldine and Elwood Cadd and Bonnie and Billy Lockhart, all of Covington; 8 grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; three sisters in law, Sarah Mays of Covington; Helen Mays of Marion and Myrtle Mays of Timbersville; special friends, Joy and Arther Anderson of Richmond and several nieces and nephews.

The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the Parrish Court United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Hassmer officiating, assisted by the Rev. Herb Williams and the Rev. Virgil Woodie.

Friends my pay their respects any time at Arritt Funeral Home. The family received friends Wednesday evening at the Arritt Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence of Geraldine and Elwood Cadd at 1307 Dolly Ann Drive and Bonnie and Billy Lockhart at 205 Clearwater Circle.
