Alice Jones Laughorne, 97, of 212 West Phillip Street, Covington, Virginia, died Sunday morning, February 21, 2010 at her residence.

Mrs. Laughorne was born April 4, 1912 at Chatham in Pittsylvania County, a daughter of the late Alsee Teach Jones and Lelia Wade Shelton Jones.

Mrs. Laughorne was a charter member of Calvary Christian Church. She was involved in the church in various capacities, including the choir and as a Sunday School teacher.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, Harry T. Laughorne, in 2001; a grandson, Brian Laughorne; a great-grandson, Jackson Edmonds; and nine brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and Walter Edmonds of Burlington, NC; two sons, Gene Laughorne of New York, NY and Elwynn and Helen Laughorne of Roanoke; a granddaughter, Alina Hughes; two grandsons, Brent Laughorne and Harral Edmonds; four great-grandchildren, Kadi Hughes, Edwin Gunn, Avery Edmonds, and Tucker; one sister, Doris Evelyn Steele of Danville and several nieces and nephews.

Internment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Warren officiating.

Friends may pay their respects at anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
