Mary Elizabeth Rees Cotten, 91, of Raphine, Virginia, died Sunday, May 2, 2010 in Augusta Health Center.

Born August 13, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Frank Brooks Rees, Sr. and Mary Steele Terry Rees.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sallie Rees Cotten.

Mrs. Cotten attended Brownsburg High School and the College of William & Mary.

She was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Hilton Presbyterian Church in Newport News.

Surviving are her husband, Edwin Corbell Cotten; daughter, Mary Claire Cotten Kay and husband, William A. Kay, Jr. of Brownsburg; son-in-law, William A. Potter of Newport News; one grandchild, William Corbell Cotten-Potter; one nephew, Thomas S. Rees of Madison, VA.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at New Providence Presbyterian Cemetery led by Melvin Bender. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
