Obituary for Hugh Anderson Scott Hugh Anderson Scott
CHS Graduate Was Amateur Radio Operator

Mr. Hugh Anderson Scott, age 94, of 7561 Cannoneer Court, Warrenton, Virginia, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at his residence.

He is the husband of Jean Scott and was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence Emma Tyree Scott in 2006.

Mr. Scott was born March 30, 1916 in Amherst County and was reared in Covington, the son of the late William Rice Scott, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Stratton Scott.

He was a graduate of Covington High School, class of 1935, a graduate of Lee McCray College in 1938, a graduate of Berea College in 1940, and received a Master's Degree from Virginia Commonwealth College in 1966.

He married Florence Emma Tyree at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church and was employed by the State of Virginia Department for the Visually Handicapped.

Hugh was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church, a member of the Men's Bible Class, and served his church as a deacon. He was a member of the Covington Masonic Lodge No. 171 AF & AM. Hugh was an amateur radio operator and enjoyed many hours of sharing this hobby with his son, Dave.

Following his retirement, he returned to Covington for a number of years, before moving to Warrenton. After the death of his wife Florence in 2006, Hugh married Jean in 2007 and lived with her on her farm.

In addition to his wife, Jean Scott, Mr. Scott is survived by a son, Hugh David Scott and wife, Gwen Scott of Cumming, GA; a daughter, Louise Scott Foster and husband, Lyle Foster, Jr. of Warrenton; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, William Rice Scott, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Stratton Scott, Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence Emma Tyree Scott; four brothers, William Rice Scott, Grigsby Earnest Scott, Lewis Burks Scott, Thomas Stratton Scott, Sr.; one sister, Pearl Beirne Hubbard.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Hartsfield officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

Masonic rites will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Tuesday evening by the Covington Masonic Lodge #171 AF & AM.

Pallbearers will be Scott Foster, Grant Foster, Brandon Foster, Jonathan Scott, Marshall Scott, Greg Scott, Pat Loving and Bill Keyser.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Scott Scholarship Fund at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, 900 N. Alleghany Ave., Covington, Virginia 24426.
