Low Moor Native Dies After Battle With Cancer

Barbara Beatrice Donovan Taylor Chaplin, age 64, of 100 E. Nicholas Drive, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Thursday, August 26, 2010 at her residence, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born December 30, 1945 in Low Moor, Virginia, a daughter of the late Willard S. Donovan, Sr. and Clelia Kitt Donovan.

She was retired.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Daryl Wayne Taylor; a grandson, Dennis Lee Vess, Jr.; a niece, Bonnie Bowen; and three brothers-in-law, Ralph Loan, Buck Brookman, and Tommy Reynolds.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Gene Chaplin of Clifton Forge; three daughters, Susan Ryder and husband, Tony of Hot Springs, Mary Guzman and husband, Carlos of Clifton Forge, and Brenda Wright and fiance, Lee Spencer of Covington; a former son-in-law, Charles Wright, Sr. of Lynchburg; three sons, Curtis "Billy" Taylor and fiance, Candy Chittum of Clifton Forge, Dayton Taylor and wife, Miranda of Clifton Forge, and Bobby Taylor of Clifton Forge; three sisters, Betty Loan of Clifton Forge, Gail Brookman of Covington, and Celia Reynolds of Clifton Forge; a brother, Willard "Willie" Donovan, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Iron Gate; fifteen grandchildren: Charlie Wright, Robin Wright, Barbara Sue Hall, Dennis Vess III, Destiny Taylor, Austin Taylor, Nay Nay Taylor, Jamie Broughman, Niki Broughman, Cody Taylor, David Taylor, Christina Spicer, Curtis Scott Spicer, Devin Garza, and Santana Broughman; seven great grandchildren Chandler, Kameron, Sammy, Zackery, Zane, Anthony, and Chloe Phoebe; ten nieces and two nephews; many friends including, Brenda Fleming, Tina Ruble, Marshall Meadows, Bill Parks, Debbie Persinger, Gary Jones, Shirley and Eric Crowder, and Gary Bland; and a very special friend, James Allard.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Gordon Hammond officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Active pallbearers will be Curtis P. Taylor, Jr., Dayton Taylor, Bobby Taylor, Jamie Broughman, Dennis Vess, Jr., and Charlie Wright, Jr. Alternate pallbearers will be Charlie Wright, Greg Booze, and Zane Hall.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Mary & Carlos Guzman, 421 W. Ridgeway St, Clifton Forge, VA.

Arrangements are being handled by the Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
