Mary Catherine (Cathy) Nicely, age 57, of Fincastle, Virginia, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke.

She was born in Ft. Meade, Maryland on March 16, 1953, the daughter of the late Jack Donald Nicely and Nancy Lipes Nicely.

Cathy was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Fincastle, and was a retired Benefits Coordinator for the Botetourt County Department of Social Services.

She is survived by her loving mother, Nancy L. Nicely, of Eagle Rock; special aunts, Juanita Akers of Forest, Meddie Nicely of Alta Vista, and Linda Jordan of Clifton Forge; special uncle, Bud Lipes and wife, Harriett of Hopewell; special cousins, Jennifer Akers of Forest and Sherry Richardson of Rustburg; special friends, Mary Lou Mullis, of Fincastle, Nancy Dickerson, Merilyn, and Schaumann. She is also survived by the members of her St Mark's Episcopal Church family and many other special friends and family members too numerous to mention.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with the Rev. Edward Would, and the Right Reverend Neff Powell officiating. Interment followed in the Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, Clifton Forge. The family received friends Tuesday evening at Nicely Funeral Home, 405 Alleghany Street Clifton Forge, VA.
