Retired Virginia House Restaurant Waitress Dies At Age 83

Mildred Nicely Simmons, 83 of Glasgow, Virginia, died Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at her home.

Born March 4, 1927, the daughter of the late Charles Horne and Cora Bane Horne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Garth Simmons.

Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Glenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was a retired waitress for the Virginia House Restaurant.

Surviving are one daughter, Wanda Clark and husband, Wade of Fairfield; one son, John Nicely and wife, Tiny of Lexington; three brothers, Charles Horne of Illinois, James Horne and Wilford Horne, both of Lexington; five sisters, Gladys Campbell of Colorado; Stella Williams; Betty Moore; Peggy Fitzgerald; Frances Moore, all of Lexington; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; and a very special friend that she loved as a daughter, Hazel.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Claude Floyd and the Rev. Carol Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2010 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
