Obituary for Gary Wayne Spencer Gary Wayne Spencer
Covington Native Was Pine St. Baptist Church Member

Mr. Gary Wayne Spencer, age 54, of Portsmouth, VA, died Friday, November 5, 2010.

Mr. Spencer was born August 24, 1956 in Covington, the son of Hortense Ross Spencer and the late Robert L. Spencer, Sr.

He was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church.

Wayne attended Covington Public Schools and received training in the Job Corps. He was a certified welder in the Newport News Shipyard. Wayne was also certified and excelled in painting and drywall.

He loved the beach and enjoyed fishing, bowling and listening to gospel and R&B music. Wayne loved the Tidewater area and the mountains equally.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving mother whom he adored, Mrs. Hortense Spencer; his sister, Yolanda Spencer; brothers, Glenn Spencer, Calvin Spencer, Robert Spencer and son, Korey, all of Covington, and Peter Spencer of Roanoke; a devoted brother and caretaker, Daniel and wife, Virginia Spencer, daughter, Terhonda of Portsmouth and son, Terron of Tennessee; one aunt, Dorothy Ross of Washington, D.C.; two uncles, Pearson Ross and Lorenzo Ross of Covington; and a host of cousins.

In addition to his father, Robert L. Spencer, Sr., Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward K. Spencer, Terry Lee Spencer and David A. Spencer.

A memorial service was conducted at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 10, 2010, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Thomas S. Simmons officiating.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Hortense R. Spencer, 528 Dewey Street, Covington, at any time.
