Army Veteran Was Newport News Native

MSG Henry Owen Brown III, USA RET., age 60, passed away on December 11, 2010 at his home in Newport News, Va.

He was born in Portsmouth, Va. to the late Barbara Ragsdale and resided in Newport News for 23 years.

Henry was also a honorary member of the Hampton Roads Golf Association.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marla Henson Brown; daughter, Angela Brown of Philadelphia, Pa., sister-in-law, Vicki Henson of Chilhowie, Va.; mother-in-law, Lois Henson of Newport News, Va.; and special aunt, Janet English of Norfolk, Va.

He is also survived by two brothers, Richard Trent and Ronnie Trent and wife, Marion, of Richmond, Va.; and sister, Lorna Kirby and husband, David of Chesterfield, Va.; several nieces and nephews also survive him.

Henry served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. He served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the following medals and campaign ribbons: Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (1-2), Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon.

He received a B.A. in Business Administration from St. Leo's College.

A funeral service will be held at Bolling Grose & Lotts Funeral Home on December 17, 2010 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Bain officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are being handled by the Bolling Grose & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Buena Vista.
