Emma Virginia Zimmerman, 86, of Skyline Road, Lexington, Virginia, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Buena Vista.

Born April 9, 1924 in Fairfield, she was a daughter of the late Bennett and Cora Reid Gordon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William (Dick) Zimmerman; four brothers, Lloyd, Gilbert, Howard and Andrew Gordon.

Emma was a member of the Neriah Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.

Mrs. Zimmerman also organized and led Four N's, a senior citizen group that met once a month and had informative speakers and she also volunteered at the local food bank.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda Groah and husband, Tony of Greenville; one son, Eddie Zimmerman of Vesuvius; one sister, Lena Koogler of Raphine; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted 4 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2011 at Neriah Baptist Church with the Rev. Brad Mullinax officiating. Burial will be private at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens at a later date. The family will receive friends after the service on Friday.
