She was born on February 19, 1926 in circleville, Ohio to the late George A. and Mark K. (Compton) Fissell.

She is also pre-deceased by her brother, John F. Fissell and former husband, Thomas B. Harden.

She is survived by a son, Ned R. (Jeannine) Harden of Sandy, Utah; and a daugher, Maryann Haraden of the home; two grandchildren and a sister-in-law.

Mary Ellen graduated from Circleville High School on D-day 1944. She later married and the family moved to Fullerton, California in 1955.

She was active in the schools, community and her job at the surgery clinic. In 1958, she and her husband were instrumental in the founding of Las Lomas Verde Neighborhood Swim Club and attended its 50th anniversary celebration in 2009.

She returned to Ohio in 1980 and served as the clerk of the Circleville City Council for six years.
