Obituary for Marie Tucker Smith Marie Tucker Smith
First Christian Church Member Dies At Age 88

Marie Tucker Smith, 88, of 330 West Riverview Drive, Covington, VA, died Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at Lewis Gale Hospital-Alleghany in Low Moor.

She was born April 19, 1922 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Charles W. and Rosa Byer Tucker.

She was longtime member of First Christian Church and the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. She was a former Sunday School teacher for 30 years. Marie was a former member of the board of Weekday Religious Education Association. She was twice President of the Curtis A. Smith VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #1033 was a Life Member of the VFW National Home and had served as a volunteer at the VA Medical Center in Salem for many years. She was a faithful member of the Good Hope Rebekah Lodge #8. She was a member of the Westvaco Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary and was Past President of District #6 of the state association. She was a past member of the board of the American Red Cross.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis A. Smith in 1986; a grandson, Michael Smith, Jr., six sisters, Pearl Brown, Trudy Weaver, Ruby Ailstock, Gladys Sullivan, Lula Reynolds and Muriel Vanness; and three brothers, Lacy Tucker, Percy Tucker and Edgar Tucker.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Latour of Fort Mill, SC and Jan Baldwin and her husband, Rick, of Havelock, NC; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sandra Smith of Clifton Forge; four grandchildren, Anita and David Unroe of Clifton Forge; Kristina Latour of New York, NY; David and Leigh Ann Latour of Maryville, TN, and Heather and Marty Wood of Clifton Forge; several great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive their friends Saturday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Arritt Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating assisted by Rev. Frank Yost.

Interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park.
