World War II Veteran Worked With Blue Ridge Transfer

Elmer Stanley Tyree, Jr., 84, of Lexington, Virginia, died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at his home.

Born August 17, 1926 in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late Elmer Stanley Tyree, Sr. and Minnie Ethel Clark Tyree.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Stanley Tyree, and two brothers, Gilbert and Robey Tyree.

Mr. Tyree attended Bible Church of Rockbridge, served in World War II and the Korean War and wanted to be remembered as a man who loved his country.

He was employed at Blue Ridge Transfer for 27 years.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Joann C. Tyree; a son, David Michael Tyree (Teresa); a daughter, Pat Tyree Ruley, all of Lexington; three sisters, Dot Conner and Gay Sorrells, both of Lexington; Ava Trovich of Short Pump, VA; four grandchildren and and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.

Contributions may be made to Kerrs Creek Fire and Rescue. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
