Was Durham County Public School System Retired Administrative Assistant

Marion Hickenbotham Thompson, age 63, of 1009 Girard Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Moses-Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina.

She was born July 13, 1947 in Oriskany, Virginia to the late James David and Dena Waldron Hickenbotham.

She retired from the Durham County Public School System as an administrative assistant and was a member of First Baptist Church, Clifton Forge.

She is survived by two sons, Mark Devin Thompson and wife, Canita of Columbia, SC, and Todd Vincent Thompson of Chicago, IL; four sisters, Christine King and husband, Owen of Roanoke, Dreama Webb and husband, Paul of Roanoke, Sybil Hickenbotham of Clifton Forge, and loving caregiver, Sandra Buckley and husband, Ray of Greensboro, NC, who opened their home and cared for her throughout the last few months of her life; two brothers, David E. Hickenbotham of Roanoke and James Donald Hickenbotham and wife, Maria of South Riding; two grandchildren, Vincent Thompson and Julian Thompson; a great grandchild, Amari Thompson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Roslyn Thomas officiating. Interment followed in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers were Les Tinsley, William Allen, Lenford Hatcher, Willis Nichols, Lee Nichols, and Irven Moore, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be George Goode and Harry Alston. Flowerbearers are Hester Alston, Ione Callender, Cynthia Carter, Lois Morris, and Oteria Wallace. The family received friends on Friday afternoon, one hour prior to the service at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Blue Ridge of Virginia Chapter, 2728 Colonial Avenue, SW, Suite 2, Roanoke, Virginia 24015.
