Obituary for William Franklin (Frankie) Hazen William Franklin (Frankie) Hazen
Vietnam Veteran Was Devoted To Family, Sports Teams

William Franklin (Frankie) Hazen, 69, of 106 Minuet Drive, Covington, Virginia, died Saturday afternoon, February 12, 2011, in the Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Hazen was born May 10, 1941, in Covington, Virginia, a son of the late Charles Hazen, Sr. and Martha Helmick Hazen Bowling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Charles Hazen, Jr. and a sister, Joyce Ginger.

Frankie was a veteran of the Vietnam War with the United States Army.

He was a member of First Christian Church, Loyal Order of the Moose Covington Lodge #610 for 31 years and the Clifton Forge Elks Lodge for over 20 years.

He was devoted to his family and the sports teams that were his extended family. He was longtime member of the Deep Ford Store Softball Team that played in many slow-pitch softball tournaments locally and throughout the east coast. For many years he coached Little League basketball and baseball teams in the area including Babe Ruth baseball teams and Senior Little League baseball teams. Frankie was proud to have coached the first girl to play on a sanctioned little league baseball team in Virginia.

Surviving are his wife of fifty years, Joyce Kersey Hazen of Covington; two sons, Chris Hazen and Mike Hazen, both of Covington; his daughter and her husband, Lisa and David Bush of Troutville; three grandchildren, Chad Bostic of Roanoke, Brandi Hazen of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Jenna Moran of Troutville; one sister, Nancy Bowling of Clifton Forge; one half-brother, Robert Hazen of Orlando, FL; two half-sisters, Pam Kuhn and Lu Ann Hazen, both of Miami, FL and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the First Christian Church with the Rev Bill Gilliland officiating assisted by the Rev. Donnie Bowker and the Rev. J. B. Broughman. Interment was made in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Friends may pay their respects at any time at Arritt Funeral Home. The family received their friends Tuesday evening from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
