Obituary for Dorothy Virginia (Smiley) Swisher Dorothy Virginia (Smiley) Swisher
Worked With VMI and Newberry's; Was Time Ridge Old Stone Presbyterian Church Member

Dorothy Virginia (Smiley) Swisher, 94, of Fairfield, Virginia, died Monday, February 28, 2011 at Kings Daughters Community Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born March 11, 1916 in Rockbridge County, she the daughter of the late Clarence Walker Smiley and Beatrice Fox Smiley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Roy Swisher; three brothers, Pete, Floyd, and Ed Smiley; two sisters, Irene Swisher and Frances Gordon.

Mrs. Swisher was a member of the Timber Ridge Old Stone Presbyterian Church, worked for VMI for fifteen years and at J.J. Newberry's.

Surviving are two sons, Gary W. Swisher and wife, Lillian of Richmond, VA; Raymond (Randy) Swisher and wife, Pat of Staunton, VA; two sisters, Katherine Davis of Staunton; Elizabeth Davis of Augusta County; four grandchildren; Jessica Swisher, Jason Swisher, Mary V. (Ginny) Pultz and husband, Chris, and Amanda A. (Mandy) Clements and husband, Rob; six great grandchildren, Emily, Emma, Noah, Thomas, Evan, and MaKayla; special caregivers, Sherry Ervin and Devan West; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Timber Ridge Old Stone Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Carl Moore officiating. Burial to follow in McElwee Chapel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Timber Ridge Old Stone Presbyterian Church Relay for Life. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
