World War II Veteran Was MeadWestvaco Retiree

Harold Linwood (Bud) Myers, 89, of 361 Hamilton Drive, Covington, Virginia, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at The Woodlands in Clifton Forge.

Mr. Myers was born July 8, 1921 in Covington, a son of the late Lonnie Willis Myers and Laura Robinson Myers.

Bud was a veteran of World War II with the United States Army.

He retired from MeadWestco as a beaterman after 46 years with the company.

He was a member of the Covington Baptist Church, the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Covington Post #4 of the American Legion.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Myers was preceded in death by a son, Charles Willis Myers; a grandson, Kevin Myers; and a sister, Mary Helen Riffle.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Phyllis Ballard Myers of Covington; two grandsons, Chris Myers and his wife, Tara, of Covington and Scott Myers and his wife, Patricia, of Churchville; eight great grandchildren, Katie Myers, Wayne Myers, Maddi Myers and Reese Myers, all of Covington; Scott Myers and Kelsey Myers of Bay City, MI, and Brianna Myers and Brandi Myers, of Churchville; a daughterŠin-law, Joyce Myers of Covington; a sister, Merle Lewis of Adelphi, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Susan Downey and Fran Downey of Clifton Forge.

The funeral service will be held Saturday morning, March 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry Throckmorton officiating. The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Bill Loving, Jerry Gibson, Mike Hendrickson, Rex Selleck, Ed Huffman, Paul Meadows, Scott Meadows and Chris Meadows. Friends may pay their respects any time at Arritt Funeral Home and the family will receive their friends one hour prior to service time on Saturday.
