William Bill Hughes, 79, of Covington, died March 14, 2011.

Mr. Hughes was born June 15, 1931 in Bath County, a son of the late Michael Patrick and Gladys May Hughes.

He was a veteran with the United States Army, where was stationed in Austria during the Korean War. He had retired in 1989 from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 36 years.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Helen Gaines Boot Hughes of Roanoke; his son, Dan Hughes and his borther, James Hughes of Covington.

The funeral was helld at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel, Covington, Virginia, with the Rev. Mike Fisher officiating,
