Gladys Thompson Mays Gilbert, 85, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away on April 10, 2011.

Mrs. Gilbert was born on August 2, 1925 in Rockbridge County, the daughter of the late Isaac Thompson and Bertha McDaniel Thompson.

She was a member of Glasgow Baptist Church for 35 years, and retired from the Buena Vista Public School System as Food Service Manager.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Louis Franklin Mays, who passed away in 1974, and second husband, Robert Hershel Gilbert; one son, Robert Lee Mays; two brothers, Kenneth Thompson and John W. Thompson; two sisters, Frances Burgess, and Emily Tomlin.

Surviving Gladys are three daughters, Ann Weikel and husband, Bob, of Buena Vista, Sue Lynn and husband, Clyde of Buena Vista, and Brenda Johnson and husband, Johnny, of Bridgewater; a brother, Walter L. Thompson; five sisters, Betty Flint, Peggy Dudley, Billie Ann Kirby, Mary Hite, and Melba Tomlin, 12 grandchildren, and 19, great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Glasgow Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Buena Vista.
