Covington Native Dies At Age 48

Miss Lisa Lynette Cooke, age 48, of 105 Maple Lane, Covington, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Miss Cooke was born October 19, 1962 in Covington, the daughter of Helen Griffiths Cooke and the late Richard Earl Cooke, Sr.

She attended Life Skills, volunteered with Hospice and bowled with Special Olympics. Lisa enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, watching her favorite television shows, swimming and was an avid fan of Elvis Presley.

She was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her mother, Helen Griffiths Cooke, Miss Cooke is survived by one brother, Ricky Cooke and wife, June Anne of Covington; one sister, Diane Hicks and husband, Jeff of Covington; nieces and nephews, Christie Cooke Kinsey and husband, Ronnie, Stanley Cooke and wife, Brooklyn, Casey S. Hicks and fiancˇe, Courtney Hayslett and Kayleigh Eileen Hicks; great niece, Rachael Kinsey; great nephew, Mason Kinsey; and caregiver, Sonya Kimberlin.

A funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2011 at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael C. Fleenor officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bill Gilliland. Entombment followed in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers were Ronnie Kinsey, Stan Cooke, Casey Hicks, Joe Wimmer, Randy Canterbury and Jeff Romanello. Honorary Pallbearers: Josh Kimberlin, Harry Stinespring, Eldridge Cooke and Horace Cooke.

The family received friends on Saturday evening at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Area 18 Special Olympics, P.O. Box 122, Covington, Va. 24426 or Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
