Obituary for James Olden Pyle, Sr. James Olden Pyle, Sr.
Longtime Covington Insurance Agent Was World War II Veteran

James Olden Pyle, Sr., 87, of 462 East Fairlawn Drive, Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at his home.

He was born October 13, 1923, in Clifton Forge, a son of the late James Ira and Maude Dill Pyle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, five sisters and one half-sister.

Mr. Pyle served with the United States Army during World War II.

Jimmy had retired in 1985 as a Certified Life Underwriter agent for the Life of Virginia Insurance Company after over 40 years of service.

During his career he was named to the President's Honor Council for 12 consecutive years and was a member of the Million Dollar Roundtable. He was a longtime member of the South Covington United Methodist Church, where he had served as an usher for many years. He was a member of the Covington Lions Club.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Bethel Martin Pyle of Covington; two sons, James O. Pyle, Jr. of Stuarts Draft and Gregory L. Pyle and his, wife, Carol, of Wendell, NC; two daughters, Tina Kincaid and her husband, David, and Beth Williams and her husband, Robert, all of Hampton; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter; and one sister, Virginia Ritchie, of Newport News; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Faith Weedling officiating.

Interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Friends may pay their respects at any time at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
