Obituary for Artie Norcross Black Artie Norcross Black
Retired From VMI As A Seamstress

Artie Norcross Black, 77, of Lexington, died Saturday, May 21, 2011 Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

Born March 23, 1934 in Rockbridge County, she was a daughter of the late Lyle Norcross and Willie Elizabeth Berry Norcross.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Houston Black, and a grandson Joshua Aaron Smith.

Artie was a member of the Oxford Presbyterian Church and had retired from VMl as a seamstress.

Mrs. Black is survived by her children Alva M. Black and Janice Black Leadbetter, both of Lexington, and James H. Black and wife, Christy, of Natural Bridge; six grandchildren, Noah and Jed Smith, Brinsley and Miah Kate Leadbetter, Nicole and Aaron Black; sisters, Mary Jarvis of Lexington, Betty Painter of Staunton, Emma Shelton of Charleston SC., and a brother, Douglas Norcross of Waynesboro.

A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in Oxford Presbyterian Cemetery with a memorial service to follow in the Oxford Presbyterian Church with Dr. Horace Douty officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Noah and Jed Smith Trust Fund, c/o Wachovia Bank, 101 Main St. Lexington, VA, 24450.

Friends may gather with the family from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday May 24, 2011 at Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington VA. Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
