U.S. Navy Veteran Dies At Age 82

James Alfred (Slick) McComb, Sr., age 82, formerly of 1113 2nd Avenue, Marlinton, West Virginia, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Nella's Nursing Home in Elkins, West Virginia.

He was born September 7, 1928 in Millpoint, West Virginia, to the late Lock and Christina George McComb.

He served in the United States Navy and was a retired truck driver for Morton's Frozen Foods.

He was of the Baptist faith and loved fishing and gardening.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Grey McComb; a sister, Martha Reynolds; and a brother, Arnold McComb.

He is survived by a daughter, Tina Morris of Covington; a son, Alfred McComb and wife, Julie of Richmond; two sisters, Loxie Corbett and husband, Bert of Euclid, OH ,and Margaret Underwood of Marlinton, WV; four grandchildren, Tommy Morris and wife Amanda, Trisha Nicely and husband, Bobby, Christopher Morris and wife, Tonya, and Christina Whipple; twelve great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Kenneth Roy McComb.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service was held on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Grover Nicely officiating. The family received friends on Wednesday from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service, at Nicely Funeral Home, or any time at the home of Trisha and Bobby Nicely, 6765 Douthat State Park Rd, Millboro, VA 24460.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, Virginia, handled the arrangements.
