Clifton Forge Native Dies At Age 80

Dorothy Rebecca (Becky) Toman Simpson Roberts, 80, of 315 Wintergreen Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke.

She was born in Clifton Forge, Virginia, on December 7, 1930, a daughter of the late Clayton and Louise Warlitner Toman.

She was a homemaker and previously a member of the American Heart Association and the Cancer board.

She worked as a representative of the Alleghany County Electoral Board.

Becky was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Clifton Forge and had served at the State office level of the United Methodist Women. She loved Virginia Tech Football.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be truly missed by all her family.

She was preceded in death in 1989 by her first husband and father of her children, Charles Ellis Simpson, by a granddaughter ,Joanna Carter Scheirer, and by a sister Mildred S. St. Clair.

She is survived by her husband Donald A. "Don" Roberts of Clifton Forge; 3 daughters, Donna S. Nicely and her husband, C.R. of Clifton Forge, Rebecca S. Carter and her husband, Wayne of Buckingham, Virginia, and Sandy Sprinkle and her husband, Ray of Troutville; 4 Sons, Charles Ellis "Butch" Simpson, Jr. and wife Brenda of Roanoke, William S. "Billy" Simpson and wife, Bonnie of Clifton Forge, George C. Simpson and wife, Robin of Low Moor and David W. "Dinky" Simpson of Chesterfield, Virginia; grandchildren, Tiffany S. Johnson and husband, Jeff, Kim S. Irvine, Chrissy S. Carr and husband, Larry, Mandi S. Wooten and husband, J.J. , Alana Averill, Darrin S. Nicely and wife, Melissa, Charles E. Simpson III, Rex Carter and wife, Tara, Charlie Carter, Matt Craft, David Simpson, Jr. and wife, Ashley, and Challen Averill and wife, Nicole; 15 great grandchildren; 2 step sons, Donald K. Roberts of Christiansburg and Ricky L. Roberts of Dublin; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was conducted Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with the Rev. W. Pembroke Hall officiating. Interment was made in the Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Active pallbearers were the grandsons and honorary pallbearers were the great-grandsons. The family received friends Monday evening from 6:00 -l 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. Friends may call any time at the residence of 315 Wintergreen Ave., or at the home of C.R. and Donna Nicely, 215 Craft Road, Longdale, Clifton Forge. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association in memory of Becky Roberts c/o Joy Weeks, Memorial Chairperson 2212 Dressler Drive, Covington 24426.
