Obituary for Rosa Nicely Black Rosa Nicely Black
Worked As Cook At Former Clifton Forge High School

Rosa Nicely Black, age 80, of 129 Falcon Ridge Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died on Monday, June 27, 2011 at her residence, surrounded by family.

Born in Alleghany County, Virginia on December 10, 1930, she was the daughter of Arthur "Pete" Nicely and Rowena Reynolds Nicely.

Rosa worked for the Clifton Forge City School System as a cook at the old Clifton Forge High School.

She retired from Liberty House Nursing Home and was a member of Oakhill Bible Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Cecil Black in 1982; an infant daughter in 1951; and her sister, Maggie Arranz.

Surviving are two daughters, Donna Jones and husband, Greg of Eagle Rock, and Connie Black of Clifton Forge; two sons, Danny Black and wife, Barbara, and Gerald Black and wife, Melissa, both of Clifton Forge; five grandchildren, Tracey Black, Christopher Black, Holly Martin, Matthew Wilmer, all of Clifton Forge, and MA2 Jeremiah Black of Sasebo, Japan; and four great grandchildren, Cassie Brogan, Payton Hickman, Karrigan Black, and Kylee Black.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Roger Bush and Pastor Mike Rollins officiating. Interment will follow in Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery, Nimrod Hall. Pallbearers will be Christopher Black, Matthew Wilmer, Greg Jones, Gerald Black (standing in for his son, Jeremiah Black), Ralph Taylor, and Travis Martin. Following the service, a repast will be held in The Gospel Lighthouse, 601 Granville Avenue, Clifton Forge. The family received friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, PO Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
