Obituary for Helen Fox Hawkinsn Helen Fox Hawkins
Avid Artist Was Sunday School Teacher, Nursing Home Retiree

Helen Fox Hawkins, 97, of Lexington, Virginia, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Kendal at Lexington.

Born April 30, 1914 in King William County, she the daughter of the late Edward and Nellie Head Fox.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde W. Hawkins, Sr., two sisters, Lucille Hammer, Edwina Hahn, and her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth F. Hawkins.

Mrs. Hawkins was a loyal member of the Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church in Lynchburg, where she taught Sunday School and was named a lifetime deaconess, and was retired from Liberty House Nursing Home in Lynchburg, where she was arts and crafts director for many years.

She was an avid artist, painting both landscapes and portraits. Helen was a member of the Lynchburg Art Club and entered many of her pictures in their annual shows.

Surviving are her son, Clyde Wallace Hawkins, Jr. of Lexington; a grandson, David A. Hawkins and his wife, Myriam Fizazi-Hawkins and their children Alexander and Lelia-Noor of Arlington, VA; a granddaughter, Anne H. Lowry and her husband, James W. Lowry and their children Mariah, Legend, Shepherd, and Tye River of Shelby, NC; a brother, Richard Moorman and his wife, Nanette of Forest, VA, and a special friend, Debi Ruley of Lexington.

A memorial service will be held 1p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Hospice Chaplain Tony Nix officiating.
