Burlington Retiree Was Lifelong Farmer

Richard Carleton Ferguson, 82, of Glasgow, Virginia, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at his home.

Born July 15, 1928 in Rockbridge County, he was the son of the late Elmer B. Ferguson and Glennie Watkins Ferguson.

Richard retired from Burlington Industries after 47 years of service and was a lifelong Rockbridge County farmer.

Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Frances Wallace Ferguson; one son, Bobby Ferguson and wife, Fay of Natural Bridge, VA; two daughters, Sandy Taylor and husband, Rob of Richmond, VA; Ann Ferguson of Glen Allen, VA; four grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m., July 8, 2011 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Cemetery with the Rev. Sara Payne and Rev. Charles E. Carroll officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, P.O. Box 948, Lexington, VA 24450. Family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Buena Vista, VA.
