Sgt. Dewayne Lee Witt, 38, of Augusta, GA, formerly of Rockbridge County, Virginia, died Sunday, July 31, 2011 at his home.

Born October 30, 1972 in Roanoke VA, he was the son of Luther L. Witt and Judith Dooley Witt. Dewayne was preceded in death by his grandparents, Howard L. and Julia F. Dooley and George D. and Evelyn H. Witt.

Mr. Witt was a member of the Rockbridge Baptist Church and retired from the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Colleen R. Witt; his special son Wyatt L. Witt; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howard and Barbara Greer; special uncle and aunt, W. Wayne and Eleanor D. Witt; two special cousins, Ginny W. Thurman and Leland A. Witt, Jr. His nurse and companion, Miss Flow, his special canine friend and who was the love of his life and his life line in this life. A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phillip Mace, the Rev. Luther Witt, and the Rev. Tracy Freeman officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
