Rockbridge County Native Was Hospital Volunteer

Viola Mae Gaylor Brown, 85, formerly of Covington, Virginia, died, Friday, August 12, 2011 in Richmond.

She was born March 25, 1926 in Rockbridge County, VA, a daughter of the late Russell and Valley Polgger Gaylor.

Mrs. Brown was a member of Fletcher Chapel United Methodist Church and had attended Lakeside Baptist Church while living in Richmond. She was a volunteer at Richmond area hospitals for over 28 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold E. Brown; two sisters, Mary Nolan and Ruth Hinton; and also a son-in-law, Richard "Butch" Miller.

Surviving are two daughters, Dianna Miller and Sue Balsinger and her husband, Joe, all of Richmond; one son, Wesley Brown and his wife, of Covington; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two great great grandchild; one brother, James Gaylor of Hopewell; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Drummond; Regina Brown and Mona Brown, all of Covington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held 12:00 Noon Wednesday, August 17, 2011 in the Arritt Funeral Home in Covington with the Rev. Jim Rodden officiating.

The interment followed in Fletcher Chapel Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial donations in Mrs. Brown's name may be made to The Fletcher Chapel United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 4619 Johnson Creek Rd, Covington, VA 24426.

The Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia, handled the arrangements.
