Mrs. Mary Corling Jones Smith, age 98, formerly of Covington, Virginia, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011.

She was the wife of the late Walter Irving Smith.

Mrs. Smith was born June 4, 1913, in Rawlings, Va., the daughter of Andrew Meade and Annie Grey Jones.

She was a graduate of Longwood College and taught in the Covington School System for 29 years.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Covington.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters and their spouses, Mary Carolyn Steele and husband, Bob of Vinton, Ann M. Miller and husband, Michael of Williamsburg; two grandsons, Thomas Glenn Hughes and Marshall Walter Hughes, both of Williamsburg.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Walter Irving Smith; one brother, Andrew Meade Jones, Jr., and one sister, Nora Field Chamblis.

There will be a private memorial service held at a later date.

The family suggests that donations take the form of contributions to Emmanuel Episcopal Church 138 North Maple Ave., Covington, Va. 24426.
