Yvonne Alverta Young, 78, of Roanoke, Virginia, was called to be with her Lord, Sunday, September 4, 2011 in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

She was born December 11, 1932 in Covington, a daughter of the late Williamd Alec Young Sr. and Beatrice Liggins Young.

Ms. Young graduated from Watson High School in Covington.

She retired as a LPN for a number of years with Carilion Roanoke Memorial Cancer Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Faye Lorette young and Marlene Choice.

Surviving are her son, Jeffrey Young of Roanoke; four sisters, Greta Allen and her husband, Earl of Hampton; Shirley Ross and her husband, James of San Francisco; Dorothy Owens and Margaret Young, both of Portland, OR; two brothers, William Young, Jr. and his wife, Sandra of Covington and Robert Young and his wife, Carolyn of Baltimore, MD; two grandchildren, Rodney Young and Rochelle Matlock; one great granddaughter, Maticen Rai Matlock and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including a special friend, Susan Persinger. The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Matthew T. Barnette officiating.

The interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia.
