Axie Belle McManamay Moore, 96, of Buena Vista, Virginia, died Monday, September 19, 2011 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

Born May 29, 1915 in Rockbridge County, she was a daughter of the late Wilton A. McManamay and Effie Claytor McManamay.

Mrs. Moore was a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren in Buena Vista, where she was a lifetime member of the choir.

Axie retired from Burlington Industries and Modine Manufacturing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James "Arnold" Moore; two brothers, Alden McManamay, Thomas McManamay, and two sisters, Ruby M. Reynolds and Cinderella M. Daugherty.

Surviving are her two daughters, Effie M. Moore of Roanoke, and Phyllis Moore of Buena Vista; three sisters, Lydia M. Johnson of Glasgow; Edith M. Zollman and Lucy I. McManamay, both of Lexington.

The family would like to give the staff at Kendal a special thank you for the excellent care that Axie was given throughout her stay.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Stone Church of the Brethren in Buena Vista with the Rev. Russ Barb and the Rev. W. David Bain officiating. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Stone Church of the Brethren. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Stone Church Memorial Fund.
