Obituary for Geraldine Farrow (Jerry) Farrar Geraldine Farrow (Jerry) Farrar
CHS Graduate Worked In Westvaco's Payroll Department

Mrs. Geraldine Farrow (Jerry) Farrar, 88, of Covington, Virginia,died Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

She was born November 2, 1922 in Covington, the daughter of the late Sanford Dewey Farrow and Lucile William Farrow.

Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, R. Julian Farrar, in 1978 and her brother, S.D. Farrow, Jr. in 1997.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Julie Farrar and Lee Hersch of Staunton, and a son and daughter-in-law, R. Allen Farrar and Kimberly G. Farrar of Covington; one sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis Farrow Allison and Fred C. Allison of Williamsburg; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Josephine Farrar Speck and Beatty Lee Speck of Greenville.

She was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren, Alexandra Farrar Hersch, Brianna Farrar Hersch, Robert Tyler Farrar and Laura Allyn Farrar. Also, one niece, Anne Allison Foster, and three nephews, Mark F. Allison (deceased), Mead A. Allison and W. B. Speck.

Special thanks to caregivers, Bessie Forgie and Dianna Scruggs and a special couple, Charlotte and Robert Shifflett.

Jerry lived in Covington most of her life and was a 1941 graduate of Covington High School. She was a member of the Covington Baptist Church, Fellowship Sunday School Class, and a member of the choir for many years. She was also a member of the Covington Woman's Club for over fifty years, serving as president from 1980-82. She was an employee of Westvaco in the payroll department when she left in 1952 to raise her family.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2011, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Bowker officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Gary Watts, Rob Gibson and Jerry's four grandchildren, Alex Hersch, Bree Hersch, Tyler Farrar and Laura Farrar.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made in Jerry's name to the Covington Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 687, Covington, VA 24426.
