Former Rockbridge District Court Clerk Dies At Age 83

Anna Miller Black, 83 of Lexington, Virginia, died Friday October 14, 2011.

Born May 3, 1928 in Rockbridge County, she the daughter of the late Otto Rodney Miller and Mattie Bell Swisher Miller.

Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Richard Black, and a nephew Clay Watson Plogger.

She was member of the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church and retired as Clerk of Court, of the General District Court of Rockbridge County.

Anna is survived by a sister, Mary Miller Plogger of Lexington; a nephew, Rodney Plogger and wife, Debbie of Rockbridge Baths, and a niece, Martha Robertson and husband, Scott of Staunton; great nieces and nephews, Clay and Sara Robertson of Staunton, Joshua Plogger of Rockbridge Baths, Molly Boyd of Richmond; one great great niece, Taylor Ann Boyd; 2 step children, Tom and Linda Black of Glasgow, Becky and Buddy Bennett of Ohio; 5 step grand children: Jason and Vicki Black of Glasgow, Jennifer Bailey of Roanoke, Catherine Bennett of PA, Susan and Paul Ahrens of Seattle Washington, Tom and Ann Bennett of Colorado; 8 step great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2011 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Martin Stokes officiating. Burial will follow at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. The family received friends on Sunday October 16, 2011 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory, Lexington.
