Obituary for Dorothy Nuffer (Dot) Garland Dorothy Nuffer (Dot) Garland
Retired Registered Nurse Was Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church Member

Dorothy Nuffer (Dot) Garland, age 84, of 1200 Grace Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at LewisGale Hospital - Alleghany in Low Moor.

Dot was born September 14, 1927 in Augusta County, Virginia, to George R. Nuffer, Jr. and Maude Alice Carper Nuffer, who preceded in her in death.

She was a retired registered nurse who graduated from the Chesapeake and Ohio School of Nursing, having worked at the former Emmett Memorial Hospital, and also served as a private duty nurse.

She was a past member of Craigsville Presbyterian Church, and attended Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lewis Garland in 1983; a sister, Evelyn Meeks; and a brother, Russ Nuffer.

She is survived by a sister, Ellen M. Youell of Clifton Forge; three sisters-in-law, Louise Carter of Clifton Forge, Janie Hoke of Clifton Forge, and Mary Jane Nuffer of Craigsville; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ann Brown and Glenda Hyler.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend John Haney officiating. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Pallbearers will be William Youell, Harry Meeks, Jr., Michael Meeks, Steve Nuffer, Curney Nuffer, Kenneth Diehl, Scott Dillard, and Michael Smith.

The family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. , one hour prior to the service at Nicely Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
