Alfred Dixie Dorey, 83, of Buena Vista, Virginia, died Monday, October 31, 2011 at his home surrounded by his children.

Born March 14, 1928 in Amherst County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Frank Dorey and Blanche Vent Dorey.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dorey was preceded in death by his wife, Regina Hardy Dorey; son, Roger Lee Dorey; brothers, Maywell Dorey, Aubrey Dorey and Dewey Dorey; sisters, Flossie Dorey Henson and Pauline Dorey Spicher.

Mr. Dorey was retired from Georgia Bonded Fibers after 29 years of employment and was a recipient of the safety award for a "two million miles" accident free driving.

Surviving are former wife and dear friend, Ruth Dorey, three sons, Jerry Dorey and wife Mary, of Glasgow; Melvin Dorey and wife, Diane, of Roxboro, North Carolina; James Hardy of Buena Vista; four daughters, Diane Dorey Newcomer of Buena Vista; Patricia Dorey Clark and husband, Dennis, of Glen Allen, Virginia; Betty Dorey Brockenbrough of Buena Vista; Nancy Dorey Gilbert and husband, Mike, of Buena Vista; three brothers, Yonnie Dorey, Joe Dorey and Clinton Dorey; two sisters, Eva Conner and Clemmie Dorey; twenty-three grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with the Rev. W. David Bain and Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the funeral home.
