Betty Ramsey Smals, 79, of Fairfield, Virginia, died Friday, November 4, 2011 at her home.

Born January 22, 1932 in Buena Vista, she was a daughter of the late Samuel E and Gertie Allen Ramsey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Smals and a grandson, Nicholas Lynn.

Surviving are five children: Rebecca Lynn and husband, Galen, Paul Smals and wife, Donna, Miriam Winston and husband, Skip, all of Buena Vista, and Teresa Evans and husband, Mike and Brian Smals and Lorie, all of Fairfield; two brothers, Lyle Ramsey of Buena Vista and David Ramsey and wife, Laverne of Winchester, also 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.Betty Ramsey Smals, 79, of Fairfield, died Friday, November 4, 2011 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at First Brethren Church, Buena Vista with the Rev. James R. Smals, the Rev. Lester Kennedy, the Rev. Christian Becker, and the Rev. Dan White officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Fairfield. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2011 at Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Buena Vista.
