Loving Caregiver Dies At Age 70

Regina Mae Johnson Hunter, age 70, of 217 East Locust Street, Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, December 24, 2011 at her residence.

She was born January 8, 1941 in Covington, Virginia, to the late William J. Crawley, Sr. and Mable Virginia Johnson Matthews.

She was a housekeeper in the home of Jim and Sara Lu Snyder for many years and a member of First Baptist Church of Covington.

She was a loving caregiver who helped with many families throughout the Alleghany Highlands.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband, William Hunter, Sr.; two brothers, William M. Johnson, and James T. Johnson, Sr.; and a niece, Deidre L. Johnson.

She is survived by a daughter, Demetria Hunter and friend Teon Douglas of Covington; two sons, Eugene "Petey" Hunter Johnson and wife, Tracie of Marshall, and William Hunter, Jr. of Covington; three sisters, Juanita Crawley and husband, Kenny, Linda Crawley, and Teresa Crawley, all of Covington; three brothers, George Crawley of Covington, Jasper Crawley of Covington, and William Crawley, Jr. of Newport News; an uncle, Wilbur Stewart; seven grandchildren, Unequa Helton, Christina Bowen, Adrian Jordan, James Hunter, Sterling Hunter, John Chambers, Kevin Chambers; two great grandchildren, Daiqwan Hunter and Desmond Jordan, and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, including special friends, Jim and Sara Lu Snyder of Valley Ridge.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service was conducted on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church in Covington with Reverend Willie Cannon officiating. The family received friends on Thursday from 12:00 noon until time of service at the church.
