James (Jim) Carlyle Vest, Sr., 69, of Lexington, Virginia, died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

Born May 21, 1942 in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late Lorenza Lee Vest Sr. and Myrtle Smith Vest.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Vest, Sr.

Jim had previously worked in maintenance at the Keydet General.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy M. Vest of Lexington; two sons, Donald M. Vest, Jr. of Boones Mill and James C. Vest, Jr. and wife, Tasha of Lexington; Gina Humphreys and husband, Jason of Buena Vista; four sisters, Edith Petty of Brattons Run, Nancy Vest Higgins and Pauline Conner, both of Lexington; Charlene Humphreys of Millboro; one brother, Lorenza Vest, Jr. of Lexington; five grandchildren: Heather, Ashley, Dakota, Jason and Abby.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2012 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
