Self-Employed Welder, Blacksmith Was Lexington Resident

Samuel Robert Higgins, 79, of Lexington, Virginia, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 at his home.

Born June 24, 1932 in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late Samuel Robert Higgins, Sr. and Mattie Isabelle Miller Higgins.

Mr. Higgins was a member of the Ebenezer A.R.P. Church and was a self-employed welder and blacksmith.

Surviving are his wife, Bertie Conner Higgins of Lexington; children, Robbie Higgins of Greenville; Bo Higgins; Mike Higgins; Cathy Cooper, Ricky Conner, Ronnie Conner, and Johnny Conner, all of Lexington; siblings, Lula Horne of Glen Allen; Linda Dunlap of Roanoke; Charles Higgins andTeresa Mays, both of Lexington; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brent McGuirt officiating. Burial will follow at Ebenezer A.R.P. Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
