Obituary for Lynda Pearl Hanks Pinckard Lynda Pearl Hanks Pinckard
CHS Graduate Was SVFD Auxiliary Member, Hospice Volunteer

Lynda Pearl Hanks Pinckard, age 68, of 2015 Selma-Low Moor Road, Selma, VA, died Saturday February 4, 2012 at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.

She was born February 18, 1943 in Covington, Virginia, a daughter of the late Zenus Mills and Virginia Esther Lytton Hanks.

She was a 1961 graduate of Covington High School, a charter member of Oak Hill Bible Church, where she was a member of the Ladies of the Church, and chairwoman of the Sunshine Card Basket. She was also an Honorary member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Selma Volunteer Fire Department, and a Volunteer with Mountain Regional Hospice.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Doris Tharp and Lois Fritz, four brothers; Donald Hanks, Paul Hanks, Calvin Hanks, and Lowell Hanks.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Thornton "Punk" Pinckard, a daughter, Lynda Marie Hicks and her husband, James, of Clifton Forge, a son, Jonathan Thornton Pinckard and his partner, John Alexander Cameron, of Sydney, Australia; two grandchildren, Austin Lewis Hicks and Abby Marie Hicks, two sisters, Gertrude Carper and her husband, Dennis, of Baltimore, Maryland, and Marian Armstrong, of Houston, Texas, a number of nieces and nephews, and a close friend, Betty Downey.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, with the Reverend Roger Bush, officiating assisted by Reverend Bill Gilliland, and Reverend Virgil Woodie. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends 4:00 until 5:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, and other times at their residence 2015 Selma-Low Moor Road. The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of donations in her memory to the Covington Food Pantry,118 South Lexington Street Covington, VA 24426, or the Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P.O. Box 637 Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
