Obituary for Seatta Emma Teaford Seatta Emma Teaford
Former Nurse's Aid Did Extensive Genealogy Research

Seatta Emma Teaford, 93 of Lexington, Virginia, died Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

She was born December 28, 1918 to Thomas Harry Hartbarger and Cleopatra Evalyna Hughes Hartbarger.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Cunningham Teaford.

She attended Demark School and Lexington High School.

She was a lifelong member of Kerrs Creek Baptist Church.

She worked as a nurse's ade at Stonewall Jackson Hospital for many years.

After retiring in 1982, she and Nell Teaford Wood did extensive research on the Teaford name. Nell published a book in 2004 called "The Teaford Families of America" and dedicated it to Seatta. Mrs. Teaford also was involved in research on the Hartbargers, Hughes, and Cunningham families.

Survivors include her three sons, Terrall David Teaford and wife, Norma, Sidney Melrose Teaford, Dannis Langley Teaford and wife, Gail, all of Lexington. Also, two grandchildren, Harry Kenley Teaford and wife, Heather of Clayton, NC, and Delores Teaford Barnes and husband, Chris of Mt. Pleasants, SC, and five great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by three special nieces, Bonita Jane Hartbarger of Bristow, VA, Brenda Hartbarger Smyth of Arroyo Grande, CA, and Camellia DeHart Pierce of Lexington along with many other nieces and nephews.

At Mrs. Teaford's request a graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Hartbarger Cemetery in Waterloo with the Rev. Bryan Volpe officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
