Active Boy Scouts Volunteer Was RARA Volunteer

Bernard Eugene Beard Jr., of Lexington VA, passed away at his home on February 17, 2012, surrounded by family.

He was born on August 30, 1937 in Cumberland, Maryland.

He served in the Army, Navy Reserves, and the National Guard.

Bernie worked as an engineer at RFK Stadium, Safeway Bakery Plant, the Ronald Regan Building and other commercial, government and residential buildings.

He was active in the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a volunteer at the Rockbridge Area Relief Association Food Pantry.

He is survived by his brother, David and very special sister, Joanne; his wife of 37 years, Joyce; 9 children: Scott, Mary Anne, Tim, Lisa, Michael, Cathy, Christine, Bill and Charles; 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Three sons lost before his passing: Stephen, Jeff & Joe.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, Lexington VA, on Monday February 20th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Rockbridge Area Relief Association (P.O. Box 640, Lexington, VA 24450, 540-463-6642).
